I'm doing some re-reading of old favorites right now. Just finished The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein, and have now started The Fellowship Of The Ring by JRR Tolkien. Once I have the trilogy and the Silmarillion finished, then I'll find something new.

There isn't a single silver bullet answer to this question. The idea for Rediscovery came to me while dealing with a lengthy medical appointment. Preparations for War happened while I was driving. Fountains of Aescalon was a long-delayed reaction to a piece of Imperial history I'd written for myself decades ago. Gates to Faerie was a challenge I'd set myself to write a different kind of protagonist. The Politics of Empire series is because I wanted to tell more stories about Grace, but didn't want to make them dependent upon someone having read Rediscovery first.

The Empire of Humanity. It's a sane place where average people do very well.

The best thing about being a writer is when someone says they loved my story - especially in a review! The other good thing is when they buy more of my stories!

a story hook of standing over a corpse with a sword in your hand, and dealing with it according to established rules of the Empire of Humanity stories. Saying any more would require spoilers for The Fountains of Aescalon

The follow-up to The Invention of Motherhood. Current working title is The Price of Power, but I'm considering a change to The Price of Prominence.
Next after that will be The Gates of Faerie, a crossover urban fantasy/Swords and Sorcery type story unrelated to anything else I have written
I also have Setting the Board, Book Three of Preparations for War on my plate, and a follow-up - not really sequel - to The Fountains of Aescalon very tentatively titled The Crazy Lady

Persistence. It isn't a spring to 'the end' it's one of those long distance endurance events to your sales goals. There will be many victories and setbacks, but keep putting one metaphorical foot in front of another. It's only a race in that it is better to get there quick, but everyone who crosses the finish line wins.

Multiple projects in process. If one doesn't want to come right now, another one will.
