How do you get inspired to write?

Dan Melson There isn't a single silver bullet answer to this question. The idea for Rediscovery came to me while dealing with a lengthy medical appointment. Preparations for War happened while I was driving. Fountains of Aescalon was a long-delayed reaction to a piece of Imperial history I'd written for myself decades ago. Gates to Faerie was a challenge I'd set myself to write a different kind of protagonist. The Politics of Empire series is because I wanted to tell more stories about Grace, but didn't want to make them dependent upon someone having read Rediscovery first.
