Let me answer this as two questions.
1) Where do I find the inspiration for my stories. Every day life provides me an endless stream of ideas. I begin most mornings, devouring the news. It helps to have a curious mind. I love to take a scenario and turn it on its side, asking plenty of "what ifs?" You'd be surprised how many stories started as a tiny seed of an idea.
2) What inspires me to sit down on any given day and write? For me, it's an urgent need to tell the story. My mind often works faster than my fingers can write and type. Once I have a story and know where I want it to go, I'm anxious to get it from my mind to the page. Discipline is a big help.

Keep busy. I have several projects going on at once. If I hit a block in one area, I move to another. Brainstorming and free-writing are also great tools to jumpstart the creative process. And if all else fails, indulge yourself with an old black and white movie. The mind is always working.

A memoir. Two story focuses on my job at United Airlines at the time of the 9/11 attacks and the near simultaneous deaths of my parents. The title Two Towers, represents the World Trade Center, my parents and my budding relationship that helped me through the chaos.

I was inspired to write None Shall Sleep by a dear friend. Her dream to become an opera singer at forty is central to the novel. And what's more, her dream went far beyond the stage, inspiring friendships around the world.
