Claire Gager I don't usually have writer's block, but I do suffer from an excessively busy home life and work schedule which leaves very little time to write during the week as I would like. When or if I do have writer's block, I take time away from my work and go for a walk with one or both of my sons. I have them tell me what they see and to describe it to me so I can remember what it is like to see the world from someone else's eyes. It gives me clearer perspective. If I can't get away to walk with my kids, I sometimes call a friend or my parents and just listen to what's happening in their lives. Listening to someone's story not only gives me ideas, but also updates me on what I've missed. If neither of these work, then I just set myself to decrease the number of books on my TBR list, which nowadays seems to have become a TBR bookshelf!
Claire Gager Just write... and keep something on you that you can write your ideas out on at a moment's notice. I have a notepad app on my phone and that's how I jot down sudden moments of inspiration to include in my stories. Also, when I say, "Just write," I mean just start writing. Your wonderful idea for a story will never be anything more than a great idea unless it's written out somewhere. I don't care if it's an outline, or bubble ideas, or even a story board drawn out. Just get it out. When it all comes out, then you can start putting things together to make your story. Also realize that not everyone will want to read your book. There are valuable pearls of wisdom in most critiques and reviews. It's hard not to take it personal sometimes, but remember the lesson to be learned, rather than the hurt. You'll come back stronger and as an even better writer than when you first started. Make friends with READERS as well as authors. Readers first because they are the ones who you are writing FOR. Authors because they are in the same boat as you and you can never have too many allies.
Claire Gager Currently, I'm waiting for the final edits on Book Three of The Last Prophet Series, Raphael's Journey, but I am steadily working on Book Four, Uriel's Light. Since Book Four and Book Five are closely linked, I am trying something new - writing both books simultaneously. Phew! Thankfully, I anticipate Book Three will be out by late winter or early spring 2015.
Claire Gager I love meeting new people and listening to their stories. Sharing stories gears me up and inspired to write what I've just heard somehow.
Claire Gager I've had a fascination and love for angels since I was younger, and as an older Christian I decided to incorporate them into a story that addresses growing in faith, and the reality of life's struggles, failures, and triumphs.
