Claire Gager is a southern California based author. Born, educated, and ongoing resident of the Golden State, she lives with her husband and two autistic sons. She is a trained counselor and public administrator, and currently directs a federal program at a university. Her writing began in 2012 with two self-published novels, and from there her love for writing flourished. Claire, being a woman of faith and a trained counselor, combines these skills together in her tremendous ability to weave spiritual fiction stories in The Last Prophet series where her characters struggle, fail, and triumph. She has three published novels in her book series, The Last Prophet: Guarding Sophia, Book 1; Michael’s Mission, Book 2; and Raphael’s Journey, Book ...more

When or if I do have writer's block, I take time away from my work and go for a walk with one or both of my sons. I have them tell me what they see and to describe it to me so I can remember what it is like to see the world from someone else's eyes. It gives me clearer perspective. If I can't get away to walk with my kids, I sometimes call a friend or my parents and just listen to what's happening in their lives. Listening to someone's story not only gives me ideas, but also updates me on what I've missed. If neither of these work, then I just set myself to decrease the number of books on my TBR list, which nowadays seems to have become a TBR bookshelf!(less)

I have a notepad app on my phone and that's how I jot down sudden moments of inspiration to include in my stories. Also, when I say, "Just write," I mean just start writing. Your wonderful idea for a story will never be anything more than a great idea unless it's written out somewhere. I don't care if it's an outline, or bubble ideas, or even a story board drawn out. Just get it out. When it all comes out, then you can start putting things together to make your story. Also realize that not everyone will want to read your book. There are valuable pearls of wisdom in most critiques and reviews. It's hard not to take it personal sometimes, but remember the lesson to be learned, rather than the hurt. You'll come back stronger and as an even better writer than when you first started. Make friends with READERS as well as authors. Readers first because they are the ones who you are writing FOR. Authors because they are in the same boat as you and you can never have too many allies.(less)

Lessons Learned From Modern Day Mean Girls

Imagine this… you’re a forty-four year old career woman working at a university minding your own business as you walk to the bathroom, when suddenly the giggles and snickering of little girls rise to your ears. As often happens at universities during this time of year, students mingle around hallways and doorways of professors in hopes of being better prepared for final exams or to get extra credi

More of Claire's books…
Walt Whitman
“O Me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring;
Of the endless trains of the faithless—of cities fill’d with the foolish;
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light—of the objects mean—of the struggle ever renew’d;
Of the poor results of all—of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me;
Of the empty and useless years of the rest—with the rest me intertwined;
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

Answer.

That you are here—that life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse.”
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

Paulo Coelho
“When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
