Cheryl Zach The young girl screamed. No one heard.
Cheryl Zach Feed the well! Read a lot . See theater, movies, visit museums. Go on long walks. Do something different. Recently I & friends did an 'Escape ' game where you go into a room where clues are set up for your group to find & decipher until after numerous false starts you may, in the time limit, solve the mystery and escape the 'locked' room. We made it with about a minute to spare- great feeling of accomplishment! 😅
PS It was seeing Beauty and the Beast on Broadway years ago that inspired me to write, with my daughter as Nicole Byrd, Beauty in Black. There's something special about live theater!

Cheryl Zach Wow, good question, hard to answer. Since I have no bloody bodies in the closet, the best I answer I can think of is what happened to an early love who left college to go into the military...& was never heard from thereafter. (He's probably happily married with six kids or something similar) but a writer could still make a good story from that beginning. 😉
Cheryl Zach Dorothy L. Sayers' great detective couple, Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. They are both intelligent, witty, and multi-layered, and Harriet is a writer!
Cheryl Zach Hi, Roswillabli,
I could answer this more easily if you were a bit more specific. The characters in which book? The characters in the latest of my books just out, Southern Angels, are four girls who find themselves in the middle of a civil conflict, hot-headed but passionate Elizabeth, pampered rich Creole Victorine, the slave Hannah who has secrets no one knows, and courageous Rosamund, who must wait the longest to find her true love. They all have perils to face and adventures to engage in. You can find more details (and see the covers with pictures of the girls) on my website, www.cherylzach.com
Cheryl Zach If I get stuck with a manuscript/story idea, I probably either don't know enough about my character, in which case I will take a little time off to think more about the person who is my main character--what do I know about his/her background, family, childhood, early experiences, all the events and emotions that made this person what he/she is today...what does he want, what is he afraid of, what does he need, what is his goal, why is it important? And then it's possible I haven't given him enough obstacles to overcome before he can obtain what he wants/needs. Obviously, the obstacles have to get harder the further we go into the book, and the story tension must get higher, the pace must remain fast, and I must keep the readers turning the pages, eager to find out what happens next--and that means they must care what happens to the characters!
Cheryl Zach It would take a book to answer the question!
Cheryl Zach I had wanted to write as long as I can remember, so writing & rewriting & then selling a book, & eventually seeing it on the bookstore shelf-with my name on it-was one of the biggest thrills of my life! Hearing from readers who enjoyed reading one of my books moves me enormously. And one smaller but still significant thing: I like being able to set my own hours. I'm a night owl, & do my best work later in the day.
