Jay Golden Consider the stories you tell. I believe that the stories we tell, or the moments that we are constantly reminded of in our lives, are helping us to understand a critical part of who we are and what we're meant to do in the world. But it's in the shaping and retelling of these stories, the seeking of meaning from many different angles, that the story really comes to life.
Jay Golden One of my mentors, the great storyteller Joel ben Izzy, used to talk about the idea of retelling a story as a litmus test. He may have only mentioned it a few times, but it really stuck with me. So when I realized I had to take my coaching and training work and turn it into something lasting, this was something that I strongly considered. Funny, though, when I first started using the word, six years ago or so, 'story' wasn't as much in the public consciousness, especially in business. So the title sticks better now than it did when I first began...at least from my view:).

Jay Golden Having something really complete. It's a rewarding thing, to be able to hand my book to friends and clients, and to get the reviews, one by one. I wasn't able to call myself a writer before I finished, even though I had published articles, written web shows, and had done a lot of speech writing. But finally, having this work that I developed for so long come to completion, that was very rewarding.
Jay Golden I was really scared to start. Staring at the blank page. So I got some support from a friend who also does speech writing and she helped me take my workshop into a speech. I started the book by doing that speech to my friends and business community, and then having it transcribed. This helped me overcome the big challenges of the blank page. Once I had some material, it was a lot easier to work with.
