Staring at the blank page. So I got some support from a friend who also does speech writing and she helped me take my workshop into a speech. I started the book by doing that speech to my friends and business community, and then having it transcribed. This helped me overcome the big challenges of the blank page. Once I had some material, it was a lot easier to work with.

It's a rewarding thing, to be able to hand my book to friends and clients, and to get the reviews, one by one. I wasn't able to call myself a writer before I finished, even though I had published articles, written web shows, and had done a lot of speech writing. “Facts were delivered twenty-five times more often than stories. And yet it was the stories—not the facts—that were remembered.”
Jay Golden, Retellable: How Your Essential Stories Unlock Power and Purpose

“The most important things to remember about back story are that (a) everyone has a history and (b) most of it isn’t very interesting.”
Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

“To hell with facts! We need stories!”
