Lenore Hirsch Through DNA testing on Ancestry.com, I discovered I have first cousins in Bridgeport, Conn., where my mom grew up. Since she believed she was an only child, this suggests she had some siblings she didn't know about. Further research on the man believed to be her father, who "left when I was young," according to mom, shows he had another wife and a number of offspring born around the same time as my mom. Unfortunately, the cousins didn't respond to my email to find out more. Sounds like a scandalous tale and I wonder if she ever had an inkling or if her mother kept a dark secret from her.
Lenore Hirsch Something smelled strange, so I peeked out the window. Saw and felt the heat of the flames.
Lenore Hirsch I have always been curious about what might be going on the heads of non-human creatures. I wanted to create a back story for Foxy, whom I rescued when he was 2. So I started writing what he might think about the things in his world and I created the back story.
Lenore Hirsch I strongly believe that down time is needed for the ideas to come. Being out in nature with time to ponder (not deep in conversation), or talking with people about a topic of interest (education) stirs up ideas.
Lenore Hirsch Unfortunately, marketing is taking up a bit of my time. Not nearly as much fun as writing. But today I wrote a draft of a column due tomorrow, wrote a short blog entry (myleashonlife.me) and posted on the My Leash On Life Facebook page, which I just created last week. And while I was walking the dog I got an idea for a poem, which I should work on right now before I forget it!

Lenore Hirsch It's fun in the moments when inspiration comes. My own work sometimes fills me with delight. Then reading to a group, especially if it's a humorous piece, gives me joy. Other people's smiles and laughter are what I am after.
Lenore Hirsch Somewhere in the past year I changed over from doing every bit of cleaning, laundry and household drudgery to avoid writing to the opposite. I now sit down and write to avoid other things I could/should/would be doing. I always have several different writing tasks to work on--a column, a feature, a blog entry, so I write whatever I am inspired to work on or whatever has a deadline. Also being in a weekly critique group helps. I have to have something to share every week.
