This is a great question! I haven't gotten feedback that anyone has been upset by the book, but I suspect that someone who might be upset wouldn't pick up the book in the first place because it would be too uncomfortable to read. I can imagine that for some readers, it may dredge up painful memories, which is not the intent. Rather, I hope people who read the book are able to talk, process, question, and find courage to deal with the topic. After all, isn't that what a good book should do? I hope it touches peoples' hearts.

I do love Kansas. I left over 40 years ago(!) but remain a Kansan at heart. I get back to the state multiple times a year because I still have family and friends who live there. Just a few months ago, I was in Kiowa County, where the book takes place. In many ways, that part of Kansas hasn't changed much--except that there are a lot more wind generators! Greensburg, which is the county seat, is the one place that's dramatically different. In 2007, a tornado blew most of the town away, so the Greensburg you see today is entirely different than the Greensburg I had in mind when I wrote the book. That was the town I had in mind when I created the fictitious town of Sweethome.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Racine. Yes, the final book in the trilogy is in the revision process right now and I hope to have it out by early 2018. I'll be sure to let you know when it's available.
Thanks for using the book for your book groups. If my schedule permits, I'd love to Skype with the various groups. One of my favorite things it to connect with readers!
