Chani Petro It helps me to remember that creativity comes in waves. If you have a period of rich activity, you will also have a dry one. This is a natural rhythm and not something to be afraid of. I also have to remind myself to 'fill the well.' If I have created many things, I have used a lot of supplies. So, I need to add things back to the creative cutting board before I can create something again. I do this by looking at beautiful things in nature and going to strange places like oddity shops.
Chani Petro Most of my stories come from meditative trances that pull elements from my subconscious 'barney bag.' If I analyze certain pieces from it Four Arms, I can see heavy influences from my time spent in India, by the many armed Goddess Durga and Kali, and by my love for things that aren't quite what they seem.
Chani Petro I have quite a few short stories ready to go that I need to find illustrators (and funds) for. But I am currently working on a war story about a girl struggling to survive in the battlefields of Germany, who discovers a golden gas mask.
Chani Petro My inspirations come from little everyday things. A sparrow flying by, a drop of water evaporating on the sidewalk, or a photograph of a gas mask. All these visuals funnel into my subconsciousness and emerge later when I start to write. My inspirations are anything that moves or touches me, anything that has a poetic edge to it.
Chani Petro The best thing about being a writer is being able to share your ideas with the world. It's one thing to see something in your own head, but to share and spread that image or thought to others is wonderful.
