In this case, I wrote a lot of the book before I had the idea of the book.
I have been writing down stories about Pandemonium's birds for as long as I have had the pleasure of getting to know the birds. Mostly I wanted to be able to remember the stories and not because I thought I'd write a book about them.

I am inspired by every day occurrences, encounters and questions, but it is those that leave a burning desire to understand what they are about in a deep and meaningful way that lead me to write about them.

I have several projects going.
I continue to document the wonderful world of living with birds. They continue to surprise and delight me.
I am also interested in the role of loss as part of the healing.
I love the fun of research as much as I love writing.

Here's the advice given to me:
if you write, you are a writer.
if you think or dream or talk about writing but don't actually do it, you're not a writer.

Writing is about finding the truth.
In the research phase, I get to find out the truth about a subject from the perspective of others. When I write about what I've learned, I get to find my own truth.
Often what comes out in writing is a total surprise to me. I find this very exciting.

Hi,
I have never (gulp!) had writer's block. I've done my best to prevent it from happening. A technique I use is to never completely finish writing what I want to say in one sitting. When I begin writing the next day, it's easy to get started because I know what I am going to write.
In addition, I limit the time I devote to writing. This makes me use the time I have productively and forces me to stop before I'm tired.
Hope this helps..
