Jason Johns I get inspired to write by listening to my readers and seeing the type of questions people regularly ask. This then inspires me to create articles or even whole books. The work I undertake also gives me inspiration as I learn about a new subject and want to share it with my readers.
Jason Johns I go and do something else or work on a different project. I typically have 3 or 4 books on the go at once, plus my websites/social media. When I find myself struggling, I put the book down and move on to a different topic, which usually works for me. Alternatively, I go outside and do some gardening as that usually clears my head.
Jason Johns The freedom associated with it. I write a book and then it earns for years afterwards. Writing has given me the freedom to do what I want, when I want without having to worry about the 9-5 life. I love being able to work when/where I want and regularly sit in parks or cafes working!
Jason Johns Just write and keep writing. Read books in the subject you are writing about and read books on writing. There are plenty of great, free online courses on sites such as edx and coursera that will teach you writing skills. The more you do it, the better you will become! I look back on books I wrote even two years ago and cringe when I see how badly they are written. I've written over 30 books and keep rewriting older books as my skills develop. You'll always be improving, so just get writing and go for it!
Jason Johns I'm currently working on my Magnum Opus, a 300,000 word+ book on growing vegetables that answers literally every question you might have and then some!
Jason Johns It comes from what I am working on in my garden and what questions people ask me about gardening. I've just finished a book on growing herbs because I'm in the process of building a herb garden and thought it was an interesting subject. Many of the herbs have a long association (thousands of years) with humans and have all sorts of folklore and traditions that I never knew about!
