I'm going to answer this about Torchlighters because it will be available for pre-order in a week's time, but I wanted a setting to write in that wasn't in the eternal medieval period that a lot of fantasy seems to settle into. I thought 'it would be fun to do this with the 1920's'.
I actually set it up like a tabletop first, and the character my husband was most interested in playing was a mobster, or colloquially called 'shoeshiner'.
I'm not sure what I was going to do with the setting at first, but I just was so captivated with Joey and Ophelia's world, and later their family. And to be honest Callum is just a little shit that would get into some of the shenanigans he does in the novel. He's my favorite of their kids and it shows.

Take it one piece at a time. 60k sounds like a lot. 20k of beginning, 20k of middle and 20k of end don't sound as daunting. 30 2k chapters almost sounds like possible. Just remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Being able to connect with readers about my work. These stories are always going to be swimming around in my head, but I really love being able to share them with others and hear their thoughts. I like to hear what the worlds I like to play in look like in their heads.

Step One: I try taking a walk and see if that works. Sometimes my brain doesn't want to work when I've been sitting still for two long.
Step Two: Music.
Step Three: If there is still a block, I pretty much just have to plough through it. Sometimes you've just got to write when you aren't feeling it.
