Goodreads asked Megan R. Miller:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Megan R. Miller I'm going to answer this about Torchlighters because it will be available for pre-order in a week's time, but I wanted a setting to write in that wasn't in the eternal medieval period that a lot of fantasy seems to settle into. I thought 'it would be fun to do this with the 1920's'.

I actually set it up like a tabletop first, and the character my husband was most interested in playing was a mobster, or colloquially called 'shoeshiner'.

I'm not sure what I was going to do with the setting at first, but I just was so captivated with Joey and Ophelia's world, and later their family. And to be honest Callum is just a little shit that would get into some of the shenanigans he does in the novel. He's my favorite of their kids and it shows.
