The Andromeda Strain, Dune, Ender's Game, and a sci-fi written by indie author Joseph Madden called The Starhawk Chronicles should round-out my summer nicely.

You might be able to write a comedy on my wondering why no matter how I position my coffee cup in the microwave, the darned handle is ALWAYS facing the back when the timer beeps.

I would say that Stu Redman & Frannie Goldsmith from Stephen King's 'The Stand' were the most memorable to come to mind.
Why they in particular stick out is for the way that their circumstances threw them together despite all of the odds being stacked against a relationship. Each was struggling with their inner demons and the simple needs of survival, torn by the paranormal forces threatening to pull apart the fragile fabric of a fledgling new society. King wrote their parts in an endearing way while managing to avoid sappiness.

Actually, it was while recovering from a stroke. I was stuck at home, bored out of my mind, and trying to piece my life back together again.
My wife was the one who suggested I use the time to pursue my lifelong dream. So, I pulled together about 15 years worth of ideas, and compiled them into Episode 1. It was my first real try at completing a novel, and attempting to do it with my brain muddled from the stroke was no small task.
Once it was done, I was happy with merely finishing it, as it had been more or less just something to fill the hours. My wife took it a step further, and found a publisher willing to offer a contract. I was astounded to have that come about, as I knew that my skill level had a lot to be desired.
Now, almost two years later, I have two books in a series on the market, more in production, and a 2-year option on a possible movie deal for the pilot episode. My head is spinning !
