Sorry, can't answer since I'm still writing the final book. :D

I'm still writing DH, so I don't have a release date yet. When I do, I will announce it on my blog and in my email newsletter. :)

Hi Rachel! I'm so glad you're enjoying my books! I don't have a release date yet for Bitter Winter, but you can keep an eye on my blog for updates. There is a status meter along the sidebar as well. :) http://jayelknight.blogspot.com/p/boo...

Hi, Melissa! I'm glad you're enjoying the book! Technically, ryriks don't symbolize anything, they are simply one of the races in Ilyon. I do use them, however, to tackle such issues as racism/prejudice/hatred. Early in the series, you see ryriks through the eyes of the general population, but you learn more about them as a race as the series goes on. :)

Thank you! So far I have designed all of my covers myself. :) I've always enjoyed playing with Photoshop.

My mom got me into writing. She has been writing since she was a teenager, and I grew up seeing her write. I thought it looked fun and started my own stories when I was eight. I love character-driven fiction, so I guess that is the biggest aspect I focus on when I'm writing. Some characters just sort of come up out of nowhere, while others are inspired by stories I read or movies/TV I watch.

I am hoping to release book 4, Exiles, this spring. I can't say yet when the others will release. :)

I'm so happy that you are enjoying my books! I have several story ideas in mind, some series and some standalone, but I'm not sure yet which project will come after Ilyon Chronicles. :)

I would say what helped me the most was having more free time to just write. As far as a curriculum, I really have no idea. It's been a long time since I was doing school. ;) I don't really know what's available now. Plus, as weird as it may sound, I actually hated English in school. I learned the most from just writing my own stories and having my mom critique them and teach me from them.

There are three storylines in Exiles. The one that follows King Balen's group does revolve a lot around Jace and Kyrin (the whole series is pretty much Jace's). Then there is a storyline for Trask and Anne, and one for Daniel.

Now that I've built up a brand with Jaye L. Knight, I'm going to stick with it. Besides, my real name is not nearly so exciting. ;)

No, I am not much of an outliner. :) I do plan a lot before and during the writing process, but my note taking is more like journaling. The only time I do any outlining is for chapters where a lot is happening and I don't want to forget anything. The key is to find what works for you. :)

Yes, I am independently published. Living Sword Publishing is an imprint that I set up for myself a few years ago. I started out self-publishing because I didn't really know what else to do, but now it's a decided choice on my part. It's more beneficial for me to have control of the entire publishing process. The best advice I can give to aspiring authors is to learn the craft and keep writing. ;) My first books could definitely use a lot of work, but you can't learn everything overnight or with just one book. Each new project teaches you something. And for anyone interested in self-publishing, the two most important things are to make sure you have a good editor and a good cover designer.

Yes, for the last 4 years, writing has been my full-time job. I do have my Etsy jewelry shop to supplement my income as well. :)

It took me 11 months from writing down the first words of the book to finishing the first draft. :)

Yes! There will be a paperback edition. :) It should be available at the same time or very shortly after the Kindle version comes out on July 14th.

Hi Chloe! Sorry I took so long to answer! I didn't see your question until now. I started writing when I was eight years old and I published my first book when I was eighteen. :)

Hi Hannah! At the moment, I only have the ability to set ebooks for pre-order, but the release is still too far away to do that. I'll know better when the release date will be closer to the end of the year. :)

I currently have an exclusive agreement with Amazon. It expires in May. I've been thinking of branching out to other retailers after that. :)

I don't want to reveal an exact date until I know for sure everything will go according to schedule, but I'm looking at mid-February. :) I think the Kindle copy will be available for pre-order as soon as I make the official announcement in about a month or so.
