Susan Reiss I watched a TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" or "And Then There Were None" and I thought it might be fun to do a novella inspired by that story. So, I created a formal dinner party for Abby and Lorraine to attend and made the killer a guest at the party!
Susan Reiss I've just finished a novella in the St. Michaels Silver Mystery series: "Deathly Silver" just in time for Halloween.
Leaves are changing colors and temperatures are turning crisp when Lorraine and Abby venture out to attend a dinner party. It marks their return to normal social activities after the sad events of Tarnished Silver. But things turn deathly when the Grim Reaper appears and points to someone at the table. Is Death about to make a visit?
Susan Reiss Don't give up. Take the time to study your craft. Write every day. Carefully consider the different parts of your story: characters, plot, setting, theme. Write every day. Be kind to yourself always and...WRITE EVERY DAY!
Susan Reiss The freedom to be creative!
Susan Reiss To me, writer's block is a blank page. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with writer's block too often. If I can't formulate a good sentence, I'll just start typing to see what appears on the screen. It's kind of like a runner stretching her muscles before going out on the road. But if I just can't get going, I turn off the computer, take out a pad or book of nice paper, pick one of my writing instruments like a roller ball or fountain pen and leave the study. Sometimes I go out to the porch, sometimes I get in the car and drive to a favorite spot then I settle down and begin. I know when it's time to get back to the keyboard when my writing turns into fast scribbles and my favorite pen can't keep up! Works every time!
