If I can't formulate a good sentence, I'll just start typing to see what appears on the screen. It's kind of like a runner stretching her muscles before going out on the road. But if I just can't get going, I turn off the computer, take out a pad or book of nice paper, pick one of my writing instruments like a roller ball or fountain pen and leave the study. Sometimes I go out to the porch, sometimes I get in the car and drive to a favorite spot then I settle down and begin. I know when it's time to get back to the keyboard when my writing turns into fast scribbles and my favorite pen can't keep up! Works every time!(less)

Susan Reiss The idea of writing a novel is exciting. The process daunting, lonely and requires courage when the page is blank and the cursor keeps flashing: waiting... waiting...waiting.
When the book is done, the need for courage is even greater. That's why I burst out laughing when I found this quote today:
“A person who publishes a book willfully appears before the populace with his pants down... If it is a good book nothing can hurt him. If it it is a bad book nothing can help him.”
― Edna St. Vincent Millay
She describes it beautifully! Do you agree?
