I hope this doesn't sound cliched but the best thing for me is making others laugh, especially if they are having a difficult time. I think a laugh is a brief period of happiness and aren't short periods of happy better than none at all? If I can provide that, then I am thrilled!

Always, always be open to advice and input from others, even if you don't like it. At the same time, trust your instincts. It is a balancing act between knowing when you are right and someone else is wrong, and vice versa, but work at it. I took a lot of advice that I didn't want to hear and it helped me greatly. At the same time, when I constantly disagreed with my first editor I figured that she had more experience than I did and I should just listen to her. But it never felt right and thankfully, I decided to try another editor and that made a ton of difference. The second editor saw exactly what I was trying to do and together we turned MS Madness! into the book I had planned the whole time!

I continue to write my weekly humor blog at www.yvonnedesousa.com and work on promoting my book and making my speaking engagements different and amusing each time I deliver a new one. I also keep reading as I think the more reading I do the better my writing will be. Plus, reading is a huge relaxation for me.
As for new writing, I am exploring turning my blogs into a compilation and I am working on a new book. This book is very different from MS Madness! and explores a romantic relationship that changed my life .

Soon crazy things started happening to me and I wanted to make sure I remembered them. And so, I started writing them down. Re-reading them helped make me feel better when times got really tough.. Then I started to think if my adventures cheered me up, maybe they could cheer up other people as well.

An inappropriate comment from my adorable little brother had me laughing within a couple of hours of receiving my diagnosis of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. I realized immediately that my journey with a chronic illness would be so crazy that I would go crazy if I didn't learn to laugh at it!
