I'm not sure I can confidently answer your question without knowing the context. However, in my understanding, "as it does" is used for stylistic reasons and adds emphasis here. If you omit it, the present participle clause still makes sense.

I was born and raised in Hungary, and my native language is Hungarian. Although I have spent some time both in the US and the UK, I have been mainly exposed to British English throughout my life, and that is also what I teach as an EFL teacher.
