Eric Brinkman I hate to sound like a broken record, but do it for someone else, which if nothing else helps you get out of your own way.

Also, the ancient Buddhist texts say that the cause for creativity is to rejoice in the creativity of others. So I look at or read authors that I admire and try to be grateful. This creates a powerful imprint in your mind to also be creative yourself.
Eric Brinkman I'm a practicing Buddhist, so hopefully without sounding too pollyannaish my main goal in writing is to try to help other people, either by sharing knowledge or experience. I think if you keep your goal to help others with your writing, it will grease the wheels a bit and make everything easier. Just the act of taking attention off of yourself frees up mental space that can be used proactively elsewhere. ;)
Eric Brinkman Currently, I'm translating a logic book from Tibetan by Chone Lama Drakpa Shedrup. He's a famous Buddhist Lama (teacher) who (amongst others) wrote a book about Tibetan Buddhist epistemology.

Eric Brinkman I recently watched the film "Lucy." Maybe not the greatest film ;) but I liked the answer that Morgan Freeman's character gives: the best thing you can do with knowledge is share.

I started writing books because I want to share what I (think I've) learned. And I hope somehow that it helps people.
Eric Brinkman I've been studying Tibetan Buddhism since 2000 and noticed that there is no non-academic book about Tibetan Buddhist logic. The system is wonderful and can be fairly easy to learn, so I thought to share that with readers.
