Do something else. Change your surroundings, go for a walk, go to the cinema, go to the gym. If you can't write one day, don't beat yourself up just do something else. After all, writers have to be out there living life in order to write convincingly about life in the first place.

I'm currently working on a follow-on to my first novel, London Calling. Loads of readers wanted to know more about Kate - Jess's flatmate and sister-in-law - so I thought I'd write her story and search for love. Jess & Lucy will be swanning about in the background along with all key characters from my first novel, but this is very much Kate's story, front and centre.

Writing is 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration. You very rarely get a brilliant first draft, but you might get some fabulous kernels of ideas that will inspire you to glory in the second, third and fourth edits. Getting into the writing habit will inspire you to do more - simple as that.

I've been away on a few long weekends with friends from university, so thought I'd write about one as they're always great fun and full of incident. Luckily, the ones I've been away on haven't been quite as drama-filled as the one in the book though! I think the idea of going away with friends and historic niggles being brought up is something many people can relate to. That, and the drama that comes after a boozy night out...
