You bought my books, thinking I was a horror writer. You were horrified to find out I'm not! :)

There are any number of mysteries in my own life, such as why is 42 the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything? But on a less cosmic scale, I have two dogs that I drive to a small local park for their daily morning run. Many mornings, there's one other car in the parking lot when we arrive - and only one. It's always the same car, and there's never anyone in it nor anywhere else in the park. I suppose it could be someone carpooling with someone else - but I don't think so, because the car's presence is unpredictable and it isn't always there on every weekday. It could also be a junkie meeting a drug dealer in the woods that border the parking lot, but that early in the morning? I doubt it. It might also be a high school student skipping school - but that often, without getting caught? Plus, it's a much nicer car than I could ever have afforded when I was in high school. No, I prefer to think it's what the old blues singers used to call a 'back door man', sneaking on a path through the woods to a nearby subdivision where his daytime lover, a homemaker whose husband has left for work, awaits. He probably leaves his car at the park because she doesn't want anyone to see his car parked near her house, for fear of the neighbors gossiping. Now since I have dogs, I further suppose I could try to put them on his scent and have them track him to learn where he goes and why - but I'm reluctant to do that in case the true situation is something considerably more sinister than I'm imagining, such as a meeting of a terrorist cell. Or aliens. It could always be aliens, you know. In any case, I figure I'm probably better off not knowing, and simply making up a story about it instead. After all, that's what I do, right? :)

Hmm... GOODREADS must be trying to prompt y'all to ask me some questions. Well, okay - my favorite fictional couple is... wait for it... Ketch and Kari, from PORT STARBIRD, PORT OF REFUGE, and THE PORT FEE. Why? Because I created them! :) But I also like Duke and Shriya from THIRTEEN YEARS OF DUST and THE PRICE FOR HARMONY, by Jeffrey M. Thompson; and Cormoran and Robin, from the CORMORAN STRIKE SERIES by Robert Galbraith (aka JKR); and Henry and Clare from THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE by Audrey Niffenegger. Oh, and how about that Nick and Amy, those crazy guys from GONE GIRL (Gillian Flynn) - but wait, I guess that might be a little weird. :) But seriously, I do like 'a little weird', or at least 'different', which is why I like all of the above.
