But on a less cosmic scale, I have two dogs that I drive to a small local park for their daily morning run. Many mornings, there's one other car in the parking lot when we arrive - and only one. It's always the same car, and there's never anyone in it nor anywhere else in the park. I suppose it could be someone carpooling with someone else - but I don't think so, because the car's presence is unpredictable and it isn't always there on every weekday. It could also be a junkie meeting a drug dealer in the woods that border the parking lot, but that early in the morning? I doubt it. It might also be a high school student skipping school - but that often, without getting caught? Plus, it's a much nicer car than I could ever have afforded when I was in high school. No, I prefer to think it's what the old blues singers used to call a 'back door man', sneaking on a path through the woods to a nearby subdivision where his daytime lover, a homemaker whose husband has left for work, awaits. He probably leaves his car at the park because she doesn't want anyone to see his car parked near her house, for fear of the neighbors gossiping. Now since I have dogs, I further suppose I could try to put them on his scent and have them track him to learn where he goes and why - but I'm reluctant to do that in case the true situation is something considerably more sinister than I'm imagining, such as a meeting of a terrorist cell. Or aliens. It could always be aliens, you know. In any case, I figure I'm probably better off not knowing, and simply making up a story about it instead. After all, that's what I do, right? :)(less)

This is Storm Ketchum Tale #4. It's a short story that takes place between PORT STARBIRD (Adventure #1) & PORT OF REFUGE (Adventure #2). (Well, sort of short; it's considerably longer than the previous Tales, but not as long as a full-length Adventure.)

The e-book version is $0.99 everywhere fine e-books are sold (including Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo, Apple Read more of this blog post »

“he could now see from the north end of the bridge. Well, good luck to you folks, Ketch thought. So, it looked like maybe the Nags Head area. But then he saw Mick turn left onto 64 West at Whalebone Junction. So it might be Roanoke Island - he hoped anyway, rather than continuing on to the mainland. Roanoke was where Kari might be today, if her mother lived in Manteo or Wanchese. He considered”
Garrett Dennis, Port Starbird

“original Hatteras Inlet, south of the current one, had closed in the mid-seventeen hundreds, and the modern inlet had been formed by the same storm that formed Oregon Inlet. But the north side of the inlet was a different story, and all that hadn't stopped someone from building the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, the marina he could now see from the north end of the bridge. Well, good luck to you folks, Ketch thought. So, it looked like maybe the Nags”

Rick Schroeder Hi Garrett,

Thanks for having me for a friend. Appreciated.

Rick

Martha Perez Hi Garrett, Thanks for connecting and letting us know about your new release; Storm Ketchum Tales & Storm Ketchum Adventures.
Best Wishes

Garrett Not sure if this is the best way to get the word out to my friends, but it seemed preferable to sending messages. I just wanted everyone to know that I have a new website now at www.GarrettDennis.com. You can order my books there, including signed print copies; and if you sign up for my reading list, you'll occasionally receive exclusive offers and updates, and gain access to my Subscribers Only page. There's also the beginnings of a blog there, and some Outer Banks photos I took.

Thanks for your time, and Happy Reading!
Regards, Garrett
