As I opened the casket, instead of the hinges creaking, they screamed like a soul in torment and the dry bones within heaved as if they were alive. I’d been hoping the casket would hold a key so that I could at last escape from this vile hellhole of a dungeon in which I’d been imprisoned for what seemed like years, but instead I watched the scurrying rats start to dissolve before my eyes, forming red puddles of tissue, as my own body gave way to the appalling odour and everything went black.

I've always found that just writing sorts out any tangles and impasses. If the storyline or aspects of it aren't great, just getting something down on paper (I mean my PC) somehow opens the door to more ideas.

Hard to say as sales, reviews and publishing contracts continue to elude me. I think the best thing about it is that it's so comforting. I just find it so relaxing.

Just start writing. Look at all sorts of situations, news items, things people say, articles about current issues and dream up a story. Join a writers' group. Mine has taught me a lot. I thought my spelling, grammar, syntax etc was OK but I've had to learn that it wasn't and probably still isn't and I keep trying to improve. Accepting criticism is difficult, but it's actually an excellent way to learn.

A mystery surrounding the murder of a Romanian girl called 'Compromised' and the subsequent novellas in the series, all crime/romance/mystery.

I've always wanted to write and loved reading. Years ago, mums were talking about Harry Potter at the schoolgate, and one mum said to me 'You could do that.' Actually, no! Not sure why she said it, but it got me thinking and I started a young adult sci-fi but never finished it. Then in 2012 I started a series of legal romantic novels. I'm a solicitor, so I thought 'Stick to what you know.' People seem to like my books and I think the writing's got better over the years but it's been very off-putting since then to get so few sales or reviews and get constant rejections from agents and publishers. Trying to promote which I'm not very good at takes up so much time. Still, the writing itself is enjoyable and I'm trying to tell myself it's enough!

The most recent book I'm publishing is called 'Compromised' subtitled 'A noir tale of love, suspense and guilty secrets'. It's a mystery, also a detective murder novella. I thought it through one evening in bed when I decided not to go out with my husband and some friends. I quite like mysteries with identity issues. Must have been deeply absorbing since I failed to hear my phone. My husband was calling to say he couldn't start the car; could I come and collect him. Poor soul had to walk home about 6 miles in the dark!
