Bevan Atkinson I don't need inspiration. I just have to write, no choice or inspiration involved.
Bevan Atkinson The best thing about any job is that the job brings you joy. If you can bliss out and forget what time it is while you're engaged in your craft, that's the main thing. I start writing late in the evening and the next thing I know I hear birds chirping. Blissed out.
Bevan Atkinson Write. Just write. The difference between a writer and someone who wants to write is that the writer actually writes stuff. In my case I wrote in a corporate setting for almost 30 years before I ever undertook writing fiction, and it turns out you can make a living as a writer in a business setting. As long as you know where the apostrophe goes in any given sentence, other people will come to you for your expertise, and nobody is ever going to demand that you write the Great American Novel. Find the happiness in creating well-crafted language, and if you get paid for doing that it's great. If you don't get paid, it's also great. Just write.
Bevan Atkinson The ideas for my books come from the meaning of the title card. I do the research on what that card means, using my own books, online information, and my personal point of view about the card, and the story emerges from that. When I was studying how to write a screen play, Sid Field (if I'm remembering correctly) wrote that the research always tells your story for you. And that's proven to be true, for me.
Bevan Atkinson I'm working now on the next book in the Tarot Mysteries series, and it's "The Hierophant Card."
