My most recent (upcoming!) book came to me from a brief flirtation that ended up being innocent and turned into nothing, but for a few seconds an idea flashed into my head. When I revisited it later, I realized that it had the potential for a strong story.

(Sorry for such a long delay!!) We put it on the area known as the frenulum. Very effective! We still use it regularly.

I love that I can take what's in my imagination—my fantasies, my dreams, my fears, my hopes—and translate those into something that is real, in its own way. The stories I tell are not really about things that I would do, even (probably) if the opportunity truly presented itself; still, through writing I can do them, in my head, and play out how I would think, feel, respond... it becomes visceral and true for me, in the best and safest way.

Often my inspiration comes from an everyday situation, where my mind wanders to a "what if" scenario.
For example: not long ago I was on an airplane, and watching the man across the aisle and just ahead of me (he couldn't see me watching because of the angle). The woman next to him was sleeping, and on more than one occasion he gazed over at her, seeming to drink in her peaceful visage. As I watched, my imagination took me to a scenario where they flirted a bit before and after her slumber, and then had a fast, anonymous hook-up during a layover. (I'm working that out into a short eBook now!)

I have several stories that I'm working on.
I've been doing a series that is quasi-autobiographical, in that it contains not my real experiences but my real fantasies and things I (kind of) wish I had done. My next installment in that series is longer than the rest, and is taking quite a while to work out.
I have another short series (hard to tell if it will go much beyond two or three volumes) that I'm working on vol. 2 for; it's about a middle-aged man and his surprising encounters with his cousin and extended family. The second in this series, too, is very long—at least, much longer than the first volume.
Then I have a couple of other ideas that I'm working out. I always seem to have more ideas than I have time to put them into words!
