Maura Satchell Tough one... I'm all about organic writing and flow, so if I do not have it, I leave it until I do. I took up painting and have found that an excellent way to take the pressure off until I am inspired. I'll head into my studio if I'm just not in a writing mood, but still want to create. Or, I head off on a different tangent - it might be researching a subject for another project, or just taking a walk or drive or what have you. The main thing I find is I never allow life to become routine and stagnant. I have to keep moving and growing and learning.
Maura Satchell I thought I answered this! Easy... I dig deeply to get enough information on the subject to know and understand it fluently and let a first draft flow organically, shutting out my inner editor. If I'm not able to progress on one project, I move to one that feels fertile.
Maura Satchell Several years ago I stayed at the beach house of a dear friend who's an insanely talented and famous songwriter. In my down time, I thought about what the walls of that place could share. I think I tapped into said songwriter's "muse" because it wasn't long before I had four or five chapters done! That was about five years ago. The laptop crashed and burned so I lost my work. But the voices still beckoned.
Maura Satchell The freedom to explore and let your mind wander, unfettered, into territory others might not dare to go. I'm sure I'm on some NSA watchlist or another for what I research and query, but too bad! If we don't go there, who will?
Maura Satchell Publishing my second novel - The Gray Lady of Long Branch. It's nearly done and I'm very excited about this story. It has a truly unique voice - that of the old Victorian House in Long Branch NJ that's been witness to many events over the years and observed many families - owners and visitors to the place. "Her" story is unique and lively!
Maura Satchell Have balls. Don't be meek and afraid. Get out there. Put yourself out there. Live each moment fully so you have stuff to write about.
