Nick Wyckoff I've always been interested in science and technology from a young age. So I tend to get inspired to write a story about new things I've seen or have been exposed too. As an example, I attended a lecture by the program manager of a new probe heading to Jupiter in the near future. During the course of that Q&A, he talked about the engineering challenges related to dealing with the radiation environment around the planet. This conversation sparked an outline for a new book I am working on related to living on a moon near a gas giant.

Having that basic scientific information to structure the outline helps keep the story believable enough that the reader can focus on the plot, rather than the environment.
Nick Wyckoff I've been involved in the Space industry for close to fifteen years now and one of the more frequent conversations we have is the "How would you explore the Solar system" or "How do we step beyond the moon?" So I had a ton of my previous, I guess call them "fantasy plays" in my email. So I decided to make a book that discussed those techniques.

The first cut was pretty boring, so after some thought I changed the story to be more of an adventure/military combat story. This of course made it much bigger, so now I have a series instead of single book.
Nick Wyckoff I am currently working on the second novel in my series, The Kalisun Initiative which is slated for release early in 2015. In addition to that, I've been working on a series of short stories that explore the origins of some of the main characters in the series.
