Jacalyn Wilson Hi Kathy,
I'm so happy to hear from you! I was born in Valdese, NC, and lived there until I was almost seven years old. I still have a lot of extended family living there. I've lived all of my adult life in middle Georgia.
After Valdese, we lived in Dahlonega, GA, for four years, and I loosely based the fictional town of Fairmount on Dahlonega. I miss the mountains!
After the Heaven's Mountain series, I wrote a historical fiction novel (1929-1945) about a young woman named Birdie, with settings of NC and West Virginia. The fictional NC location was loosely based on Valdese. You might enjoy the setting of that book. It isn't a Christian romance, though it's still very mild by most standards. You could read the reviews on Amazon, and see if it looks like something you'd like to read.
Thank you so much for getting in touch with me! It's an exciting thing for me to hear from someone who's read my books.
With blessings and good wishes -
Jackie Wilson
Jacalyn Wilson The feeling I get when someone says they really liked my book! It's a great feeling, and it never ceases to astonish me, because there's so much good work out there that they could be reading instead of mine.
It still blows my mind every time I hear it!
Jacalyn Wilson Sometimes it helps if I "trick" my brain and write in a different medium. My normal mode is to use the computer. If I can't get going on the computer, I grab a notebook and a pen and start writing something. Even if it's something crazy, unusable, sketchy, the process of moving my hand and getting some words flowing may be enough to get that block dislodged. Or I'll use the recorder on my phone and tell the story out loud. Sometimes that gets things going. But then there are times when I just have to wait.
Jacalyn Wilson I've met so many people who are articulate, funny, smart, expressive, possessing the characteristics of a potentially great writer, but they don't believe they're capable of writing. If you have a desire to write, don't shackle yourself with false limitations. Give yourself a chance.
Jacalyn Wilson Several years ago, I wrote a short story/novella called "Sins of the Mothers". My current project is an expansion of that story. I haven't decided whether I should keep the short story title, "Sins of the Mothers", or go with something different. Maybe "What We Had"? Or "Hear the Wind Blow"?
Jacalyn Wilson I'm very excited about this project, because I'm venturing into an area that's new to me. The Heaven's Mountain trilogy was "Christian romance with a touch of suspense". My new book would probably be considered "mainstream literary fiction". A little more serious, written in first person, this novel will tell the story of Birdie, from her teen years in the early '30's through the end of World War II. Projected release date October 1, 2016.
Update as of 7-27-16:
I'm close to finishing the rough draft! Hoping to release sometime in October. Stay tuned!
