Anthony O'Brian It was probably the fifth time that rainy night she had heard what sounded like a kitten behind the house. Finally after painful deliberation, she swung open the door, clicked on the flashlight - its piercing beam illuminating the backyard, and then she screamed.
Anthony O'Brian The idea for my most recent book, The Fishing Trip, came to me out of 'thin air' as I was working on another, yet unpublished title. It was so good (in my unabashed opinion) that I literally stopped typing on the manuscript and began the new book.
Anthony O'Brian Imagination (as with most fiction writers), but also LIFE. I try to weave true events into my stories because they are the best. Many times the idea of a book will come to me somewhere in the middle of a character's conflict and I began to study how to help them. This is where the story begins to build. Helping my characters overcome provides tremendous inspiration.
Anthony O'Brian A title, "Pushup King". It is a story that takes place around the same time as September 11, 2001, in a small city in central Wyoming. The main character is a young wife who is attempting to salvage their last place of residence, as well as they way of life. Her husband is a central figure who was injured in a construction accident that becomes the focal point of a great struggle of strength, will, and stamina.
Anthony O'Brian I step away for a bit and think it through. I also may go back and re-read the manuscript or the part I have just written. This often puts me back into the flow of the story and may even inspire me to continue on during that session with new ideas.
Anthony O'Brian I can get these stories out of my head!!! I get ideas and they seem so real to me as they start to grow I can almost see them unfolding. There are times when I am so absorbed in the emotional aspect of a story that I haven't even written the first line to. THAT is when I know I am on to something. I stop what I am doing and get the opener down. I can then daydream about the rest of it...imagination is the best part of being a writer!
Anthony O'Brian The best advice that I received about writing (with publication in mind) was to determine to write a little bit every day. Obviously, there were days when I couldn't and didn't write (weeks in fact), but that commitment always drove me to pick back up where I left off until I had a completed manuscript.
