I got the idea for my latest book 26 years ago, when my daughter was born. When you're in that moment, waiting for the birth, supporting your wife as best you can, seeing the newborn at last..., you've come face to face with something so amazing, so special, so transcendent--you can't describe it. There is a divinity in that moment I wanted to write about.
