I experienced a scary chronic seven year long case of writer's block that stemmed from trauma I experienced from hurricane Katrina. I can't explain it other than there was just nothing there! This was the most trying time for me as a writer. I was depressed, utterly lost and completely empty, so I channeled my energy with other positive endeavors, but the depression lingered until one day a friend of mine told me to write. "Just write anything. Even if it's crap, just write!" And so I began with daily journals, which was crap, but I was writing again. I noticed that I had also stopped reading, so I began to read again and eventually I got back in the saddle. I still feel that pain today and hope it never happens again.
Run-of-the-mill writer's block happens. The best thing to do for it is to accept that it is normal. If it hasn't happened to you, it will, so don't panic. My remedy for this is getting away from all electronic devices for a while, so I read real books (no e-readers), TV kills my creative spirit, so I avoid it and try to spend time with friends. Taking a trip, even a day trip to a new place helps as people watching helps me. Exercise is good medicine for me when my mind is stuck in a rut. I play tennis, so a challenging tennis match is great because the strategic thinking involved sharpens my mind.

I'm currently working on the prequel, yet untitled, to my debut novel, Twisted Oak: A Sexual Odyssey. It's more historical in nature, which I prefer, and filled with romance an human interaction. The setting is mid- eighteenth century southern Louisiana. It's a challenge, but a good one!

People inspire me, so it's easier for me to write when surrounded by human diversity and action. Some writers prefer solitude. I require action. For example, there is a man who rides his bicycle down my street every day to the market. Where did he come from? Where does he go? What did he buy? The seeds are planted for a story.
