C. Michael Lorion Reality on paper? Yeah, I think so, given enough time. There are ideas and visions in my head of stories to be told, but some of them I'm not yet capable of conveying in print simply because I don't think I yet have the requisite writing chops to pull it off. Some of the ideas are quite complex in structure, so I need to wait a bit before trying to write them. Someday, though. Someday.
C. Michael Lorion My most recent book is Totem (Book 1: Scars). The inspiration for that came about four years ago as I walked up my street to the post office with my son who was four years old. A car zipped by us, and the horrible, horrible thought came into my mind: what if that car came at us, and what if I was unable to protect my son, and he died? Over the next few days I contemplated what it would be like if a parent was, either directly or indirectly, responsible for the death of his child. Now, if you've read Totem, you may very well think to yourself, "Hey, buddy, how did that thought lead you to this story?" It's a good question, and somewhere in the second or third installment you'll find the answer.
C. Michael Lorion Not sure how to answer this as I'm not sure what the question is, but I'll answer it nonetheless. I read lots of novels and books by authors on writing, so I get inspiration from them. I also listen to lots of music, and that inspires me. I spend time outside, in the quiet, and that inspires me. I spend outside with my children, and that inspires me. Lots of things inspire me to put things down on paper.
C. Michael Lorion The first draft of the second book in my Totem series, Totem (Book 2: Ashes).
C. Michael Lorion If you are, in fact, writing, then don't think of yourself and don't refer to yourself as an aspiring writer. If you're writing, then you are a writer. If you haven't written anything, and you aspire to write, THEN WRITE! ;)
C. Michael Lorion The excitement and terror of opening my laptop to a blank page, having only the slightest idea of what's going to end up on the page at the end of the day. It's like sitting outside, watching the sunrise, feeling that the day holds so much promise, yet not having any clue as to what could be coming your way.
C. Michael Lorion I just write anything that comes to mind. If nothing comes to mind, I just write gibberish until something intelligent comes out. Luckily, I haven't had a serious case of writer's block.
