Anais Torres I got the idea for Being Brave Again after watching the movie Gone. I became interested in life after tragic events and how the victim copes long after the investigators and media have cleared the scene. I began researching about victims and a lot of the information I found most helpful and powerful were the stories of rape victims.

I knew that I wanted to tell Rachel's story because it wasn't something I've read in a book before. We see a lot of details about rape stories and this was a side I wanted to tell.

I do know some rape victims, I was able to chat with them and ask questions but I didn't base the book on a real event.
Anais Torres The Idea for The Art of Unpacking came from a lot of different places. Evanescence, Trapt, Halestorm, and Bullet For My Valentine are just a few of the bands I had on an infinite playlist while working on the Addison character.

I watched so many 90's movies and researched a lot on foster kids to get a feel for the kind of teenager I wanted Addison to be. For me she isn't an alter ego or a variation of me. Addison is a teenage girl that I saw so many times in so many of my friends in high school. I had an overwhelming need to tell her story.

I wanted a duo of two love interests from polar opposite ends of the world. Just like my own love story. My boyfriend and I are two very different people. Creating Caleb was a lot of myself. He was my alter ego. The golden child with many expectations. Creating him for this story and placing him in Addison's path was the best time I've ever had.

Anais Torres I have always had a creative nature about me. I love stories and love expressing myself. When I was seventeen I was looking for special type of story to read. Something that really sparked my interest, when I didn't find it, I did the next best thing. I wrote it myself.
Anais Torres I am always working on many things at the same time. At the moment I am working on Fanfiction for my profile online. I'm also working on my blog, which is a depiction of life as a writer and what the life style is like.

The big other project I'm working on is my second novel called Being Brave Again. This story is about a victim of sexual assault and how she lives her life after this happens. It's young adult book about what its like to be a survivor.
Anais Torres If you're not reading as much as you're writing, you have no business in the field. You have to be open and involved in the media of writing. It's not enough to just produce it.
Anais Torres Creating that kind of world for someone where dinner can be burning, the dog has torn up another pillow and the neighbors have adopted the baby all because what your reading is just too good to put down.
Anais Torres Pinterest. Music. Facebook, really bad romantic comedies.
