Bronwen Griffiths I get frustrated and depressed at times. Then I have to go for a walk or chop angrily at the weeds in my garden. Sometimes when the writing is going really badly I do feel like I'm wasting my time and pages get binned. But I know that deep down, this is temporary and that it's best for me to take a short break from writing. I like to draw and paint and I'm a keen photographer. Having other creative outlets helps.
Bronwen Griffiths Creating new characters who almost become like real friends. The satisfaction of finishing a short story or a novel and actually feeling pleased with the result. The days when the writing goes like clockwork.
Bronwen Griffiths Go for it. Just write and keep on writing. Don't spend too long trying to get things perfect. You can take advice later. It's important to edit but you need the work there to edit. It's important to show your work when you are ready - but not before you feel ready - and to learn to take advice and constructive criticism.
Bronwen Griffiths I am working on a new novel which again explores how conflict and exile affect people. This seems to be a theme for me at the moment.
Bronwen Griffiths I get inspired by all sorts of things - walking in my local woods, gardening, activism....it's hard to say. Sometimes I am not inspired and think I will give up writing altogether and then an idea comes and I'll go with it.
Bronwen Griffiths The idea for my book came out of a trip to Libya in 2011. While I was there the uprising against Gaddafi began and I had to be airlifted out of the desert town of Sabah. On my return to England I became interested in the history and politics of Libya and out of that came the idea for the story.
