Lynn B. Davidson I got my inspiration for my latest series from reading books on sexual anthropology. I started wondering what would happen if a girl from our culture was stranded in a place with completely different sexual norms. Since the society I created was so different from anyplace on earth now or in the past, I had to set it on another planet.
Lynn B. Davidson I think life inspires me. Everyday I daydream about characters I'm writing about or possible new characters.
Lynn B. Davidson I am currently writing a present day erotic novel set in Minnesota. I was inspired while there this summer. It is still in it's early stages, so I don't have a date set as to when it will be finished.
Lynn B. Davidson Read, write, research and take a leap of faith.

Reading helps formulate what you like or don't like about certain books. It helps you know your genre and current trends. I don't like to read new books while reading so I keep all of my favorites on hand while I'm writing. I binge read new books between projects or when I know I'm not going to write because of my daily life.

Writing inspires writing. I like to make sure I write something every day, even if it isn't my current work in progress. Sometimes I write articles for my blog or letters to friends.

Research publishing trends and places to publish. I think one of the best ways to start is look at what you are reading. Most publishing houses have guidelines for submission that include what they are looking for and what they don't want. You don't have to let publishing trends dictate your writing, but it is a good idea to know what's out there.

Research editing. Most publishing houses require you to do your best to pre-edit your work. It is also a great idea to find a beta reader. They can help point out plot holes or where your story doesn't' make sense.

Take a leap of faith. If your goal is to publish at some point you need to submit your manuscript! Once you've done your best at editing and gotten feedback from your beta, it's time to send it out.

*I do want to say that this advice is primarily targeted to writers who want to publish with a small publishing house. I'm not sure what advice to give for people who are looking to self-publish or want to go with a mainstream publishing house.
Lynn B. Davidson I spend a good deal of my day daydreaming. When I watch TV, read books, or just drive down the street I usually find myself creating characters or scenarios and scenes in my mind. I write them down for possible future reference.

Writing gives me an avenue to utilize all of my daydreaming!
Lynn B. Davidson I've had two main instances of writers block. One was when the characters stopped talking to me and the other one was when the plot required a scene I didn't feel know how to write.

In the first instance, I knew that the characters had stopped talking to me, but I tried to keep on writing, thinking that it was part of my growth as an author. It soon became apparent that I need to stop writing and spend some time with my characters and let them fully express themselves to me before I could go on.

The other time I had writer's block was when I was writing a fan-fic about 10 years ago. I needed to write a legal scene but the logistics of writing something so foreign to me kept me from continuing the story. I still feel bad for those characters.
