Anamika Mukherjee Survivors, the story of a small group of survivors of a nuclear catastrophe, was largely, but not entirely, born from the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe. The idea had been lingering at the back of my mind even before Fukushima, but when Fukushima happened, I knew this was a book I had to write.

Then, when I'd finished Survivors, I knew there had to be a sequel. I wanted to know what happened to the rest of the world and why nobody came looking for survivors. And I wondered what it would be like, if and when the survivors were finally discovered by the rest of the world. So Worlds Apart was born.
Anamika Mukherjee Persistence. Keep writing and when you're done writing, keep pushing to get your work out there. There's no easy way and no shortcuts. You just have to keep at it.
Anamika Mukherjee The best thing about writing books, for me, is the freedom to write for myself. I have also been a blogger, a travel writer, a freelance writer and reporter, and of course for a large part of my professional life, a technical writer. In all of these areas, what you write is dictated by external demands. I don't always like or agree with what I have to write about or how. But when I write my books, I'm answerable only to myself. It's my language, my thoughts, my direction. When do you ever get complete creative freedom like that in a job?
Anamika Mukherjee I've never really had writer's block while writing my books. I think it's because I don't have to push myself to write. My books push me to get written. It's not that I don't get stuck at certain plot points, but I always get past them in a day or two.
I did have "writer's block" a couple of times when I was blogging regularly. I used to run out of ideas. It was just a matter of waiting it out and then ideas would start to flow again.
