Hi Amanda,
You are "shouting" when you generalise your writing i.e. you try to talk to a lot of people at the same time - as if you want the guy at the back of the hall to hear you.
Good writing is like a conversation with someone sitting with you in a confined space. You are sharing information with them, just as you would when talking to a friend in Starbucks.

I just sit back and listen to good music and look out of the window at the green fields and trees around my house. Some days it doesn't clear at all. But I don't worry about that because I figure it is just my brain sorting things out. This can sometimes take a day or two. But sooner or later I wake up in the morning bursting with things to write about.

Write about the things that you enjoy. It is easier to do the things we enjoy in life, so it follows that it is easier to do enjoyable things more often, and by doing things more often we become more expert. You will get better by practicing the things you enjoy doing. And your life will be a lot easier.

My inspiration comes from the conversations going on inside my being. These don't appear to be all in my head, because they also seem to come from my emotions. When the emotions get really strong I write up a storm and can do as many as 6 to 8 thousand words a day.
Once I get a good feeling for a character or a story line it carries me along as I explore the idea in writing.

The idea for Ignite Your Inner Leader came to me in two parts. The first part was the thought that I wanted to write a book about leadership and why it is so important in the workplace. The genesis of this was my own dissatisfaction with many of the leaders I had experienced during my corporate career.
As I recall the second part of the idea came from the desire to not write another long boring "management" book. So I started to think about the books that I enjoy reading and they are story books.
So I combined the desire to write a leadership book with the idea to write a story about a leader.
