I have always loved Benny and Jack in Maeve Binchy's Circle of Friends. They fall in love with the essence of each other rather than who or what they are. Despite setbacks and disasters, they manage to hold onto their dignity and untimately their friendship. The ending leaves it up to the reader's imagination to decide their fate - personally, I have always believed that they finally marry and have two beautiful children. Such is the power of their personalities that I cared enough about them to imagine them living happily ever after.

The best thing is being able to get all the stories and characters out of my head and down onto the paper so that I can share them with others.

I find inspiration when I have plenty of light and fresh air. As soon as I sit outside in the sun I find my fingers itching to hold a pen. The words seem to flow from my brain, down my left arm and onto the page. I tend to do most of my writing in the summertime so that I am able to take advantage of the long hot days and then use the winter for editing and marketing.

The original idea came from a story I'd heard many years ago but it gradually evolved into stories from my own childhood and my father's life. It is only based on these stories as my imagination took over and led me in different directions.

I am working on two projects. The first is an Irish period drama and the second is a children's book.

Don't over think things. Just begin somewhere - it doesn't have to be the beginning - and get it down on the page.
Your first draft should be just that. Don't worry about typos and other errors. Lose yourself in your writing and let it flow.

I find that if you have the right story inside you it will come out when it is ready. For those days when nothing seems to happen, pick up a pen and a notebook and just write anything. It doesn't matter what goes on the paper, just fill that page!
I always have to use a pen for writing fiction. I like to actually connect with the page. This seems to stop the dreaded writer's block for me.
