I would travel to Gone with the Wind and enjoy the Twelve Oaks barbecue.

The way I was taught about spiritual work. In most of the spiritual books that I read, the apprentice went to find his or her teacher in remote areas, usually outside the United States. With me, my teachers came to my door - at my workplace. This included a man from India and a Native American man and his female partner. Even my most recent teacher, Lynn V. Andrews, I became her apprentice without having to leave home.

Thank you for your question Shelli. My Native American teacher had lived with the Tibetan monks for 6 months and studied Sikkim. Tibetans began to settle in Sikkim in the 16th century and in 1642 a Tibetan king started a hereditary line of Sikkimese rulers that lasted until 1975. They passed on Tantric rituals to their followers.

I'm a prolific writer and I don't have a shortage of ideas, so when I notice that my writing is not flowing, I back off. I do other things I love - yoga, walking, cooking, going to the movies, reading, or whatever else recharges my creativity.
Years ago, I went through a serious writer's block. In search for an answer, I stumbled upon a book called Writing Spirit which helped rejuvenate my love for writing. It also introduced me to Lynn Andrews who became my teacher. I truly believe that anyone who searches in earnest for an answer to their problem will find it.

Working out of your home, especially when you have children and you want to be available for them.

Hone your discipline. Have patience. Don’t try too hard and don’t write for fame or money. Trying too hard will create the opposite effect and writing solely for fame or money will get in the way of your creativity. Write because a story is stalking you, wanting you to pay attention to it. When that happens, then the writing becomes of service to you and to others.

There's a man whom in my books I call the Red Indian. For as long as I've known him, he has shared the most unique perspective on various topics. I decided to compile our conversations into a book, which will be called "Conversations with My Native American Friend." We still have more conversations to go before the book is complete.
Another book I'm working on is the fourth of the Iraqi Americans book series, called The Lives of the Writers.

As a wife, mother, and caregiver, I rarely cook, exercise, clean the house, go to the movies, or out to a nice dinner on a whim. When it comes to getting important tasks done, which includes my writing, I set a schedule and plan accordingly. Otherwise, my family would starve, the house would constantly be a mess, and the book would never see the words “The End.”
Books are not written overnight. Oftentimes, they simmer inside of the writer for years before they are poured onto paper (or computer screen). Getting a book from A to Z requires much discipline, time, and patience, but what doesn’t? Most professions, including that of parenthood, require this type of commitment patience.

When I enrolled in Lynn Andrews' 4-year school, one of the requirements was to keep a journal. I noticed that as I recorded my thoughts and feelings on paper, the words flowed easily, smoothly, and abundantly. I knew this would be my next book.
