This is the easiest question to answer--my past. Though writing a memoir can be a painful process, reliving the events with each word written, re-experiencing the emotions as they are described in detail for the reader, my idea was handed to me the day I was born.

When I actually began to write, it was easy enough because I needed to get my past out of my head and onto paper. I wasn't sure if it was going to actually turn into a published memoir. As I continued to write, however, it became more difficult. Friends and family played a big role in keeping me motivated.
As for inspiration, knowing how misunderstood trauma spectrum behaviors are, I was determined to share hope for people struggling with symptoms, family members with a loved one struggling and professional who treat people with early childhood trauma.

I am currently working on a more academic style book. The target audience will be students and professionals in the field of mental health. Though there are numerous books written on childhood trauma and it's affects on adult pathology (my area of specialty), I don't know of any that have been written from the perspective of someone who both works in the field and is in recovery from the very disorders that will be focused on in the book.

When I first decided to write a book, I never thought I would accomplish my goal. It was daunting to imagine writing so many pages. The approach, however, I took was to break it down into bites. It made it not just appear more manageable (and possible), but it indeed it was more manageable (and possible).
Also, remember that it doesn't have to be perfect the first time around. I began with word "throw-up" and just kept revising. Enjoy it. It's worth it when you have an end product that is your creativity--a piece of you. Whether fiction or non-fiction, it's always a piece of you.
The best advice…just sit down, write and have fun!

That's an interesting question for me, because in college I hated to write! Yet once I began my journey with The Boom Boom Retreat, I was able to express my experience with a sense of mastery.
Writing is a creative outlet that I never thought I would enjoy as much as, in the end, I did. I'm working on a more academic book, which will be a whole new challenge.

I would step away from my book as I was writing, at times just long enough to watch something on youtube that lifted my mood, and at other times for longer periods, such as days or even weeks. Taking a step back helped me to see it from a different perspective.
Also, since the book is a memoir, I would at times visit some of the places talked about in the book. It helped to evoke both memories and emotions.
