Bill Percy I would travel to one of two fictional counties, either Absaroka County, WY, where Longmire is the sheriff, or to Adams County, MT, where Andi Pelton is a deputy sheriff and her lover, Ed Northrup, is the only psychologist in town.
Bill Percy At this moment, my favorite fictional couple is Andi Pelton and Ed Northrup, primary characters in my novels "Climbing the Coliseum" and "Nobody's Safe Here." Why? Both are older, once-divorced, and leery. They love each other, having met later in life, but when Ed's desire to get closer (get married?) is hot, Andi's willingness cools. And then, vice versa. Each is searching into the deep and ancient reasons for this dance, but they're still dancing. I can't wait to see how they work it out! (Check Ed and Andi out in my novels, available on Amazon. com!)
Bill Percy Usually, what blocks me is that I've made a serious error in forcing one of my characters into actions they would not take, or creating a problem for a character that would not happen in real life. So if I'm blocked, I go back and find out where my error is and work on correcting it. Once I find a way out, the writing starts to flow again.
Bill Percy Writing itself. Also, "living" daily with interesting and complex characters and the challenges, obstacles, and mysteries they have to deal with. I also love sentences.
Bill Percy The third and fourth books in my Monastery Valley series. The third is titled "The Bishop Burned the Lady," and is about a sex trafficking cult in the Montana mountains. The fourth is titled "A Patriot's Campaign," and it's about one of the main characters finding herself in a difficult decision: Either run for Sheeriff (which she does not want to do) or risk being forced to leave Monastery Valley and the new life she's crafted there.
Bill Percy My usual inspirations come from current events that are intriguing to me, and once I get a cool "what if?" going, I find it inspires me every day. And my characters (I'm writing a series) inspire me -- they're good, decent, flawed people confronting mysteries.
Bill Percy In a small town in Minnesota, back in 2014, a young man was discovered with a weapons cache and a plan to commit a school shooting in his high school. I wondered what the police and the psychologist on the case would do if the boy had absolutely no background or problems that would explain his behavior. That led to "Nobody's Safe Here," published yesterday, Dec. 8, 2016 by Black Rose Writing.
