This is a fun question. I'm a nut for exploring isolated places where the mere act of being there offers challenges, struggles, and danger. Man vs Nature in a big way, if you will. The ultimate extension of that is the colonization of new planets.
If I had to choose a specific book, a specific setting off the top of my head, my brain jumps to Michael Crichton's The Sphere. The best of both worlds... the deep unexplored ocean on our own planet and the great unknown in the way of a spaceship.
What would I do there? Most likely go insane and get my fool-self killed. :-D In my daydreams... I'd find a way to get that big bugger up and running and set out on the ultimate adventure. Maybe do a little colonization along the way.
Thanks for the question!

The only cure for the dreaded white page and flashing cursor is to write. Write, write, write. Fiction writers are basically teaching their brains to be naughty on command, to play and break the rules. The more you write, the better you get at it.
The second thing I'd tell aspiring writers, get unbiased feedback. It might sting, it probably will, but without it, you're not going to grow. Constructive criticism is a gift, wrapped in tough love. Don't take it personally, use it to make you a stronger writer, a stronger storyteller. Never stop learning, never stop growing, and keep reaching.

The magical first draft. It's called the garbage draft for a reason, but while I'm writing it, while I'm in the zone, there's nothing better. Most of us have read a book that had us so absorbed we've lost track of time. Getting into that zone is a lot like that, except the book is still in our head, waiting to come out. The deeper you go, the more the characters come to life, start misbehaving. The world is new and fresh and there are new struggles, new victories, waiting just around the corner. It's a great place to be.

I've been fortunate and haven't dealt too much with what I believe writer's block to be. However, if you work a full-time job and write, it's quite possible to wear yourself out. When that happens, I hit the desert or lake to explore and recharge my batteries. A little exploration, and quite possibly sleep, usually gets the story back on track.

My first series. :-) I'll introduce the Extinction Series on September 30th, 2015 with a novella called Genesis. I'm really excited about it. Until now, the primary premises for my books have been man vs. serial killer, man vs. bad guys. With the Extinction Series, I'm digging deeper into man vs. himself as well as man vs. nature. There are still plenty of bad guys, two in particular, but it will be the most character-driven work I've done so far.
Here's a what I'm working on for the blurb:
Two pivotal nights, sixteen years apart, will intertwine the fates of predator and prey, friend and foe, as they discover how fragile the human race truly is. Will anything they learn help them survive extinction?
Max Dumerick has spent his young life doing the dirty work of the highest bidder. When his last job awakens his reluctant conscience, he finds himself teaming up with an unlikely duo to try to stop a would-be god.
When Melanie Edwards realizes she’s being hunted, her desire to protect her family forces her to make some hard choices. Choices that will lead her into the belly of the beast.
Abandoned by the woman he loves and the mother of his child, left with nothing but infrequent, cryptic messages, Ryan Edwards stumbles across evidence of the coming apocalypse. When he starts digging for the truth, he must choose between warning the world, and saving his daughter’s life.

Writing has always been there for me. It was an escape for me, a way out. I didn't begin writing novel length works until the 90's. As a single, working mom, it just wasn't possible for me to focus on it seriously without feeling like I was neglecting my kids or work.
As far as publishing... That would be my mother-in-law;s doing. She got a hold of Echoes of Harmony and didn't give up until I took the leap. She's still my number one fan.

Canyon Echoes was actually written for a small group of readers in Yellowstone National Park. One reader started it off by saying she'd love to killed-off in one of my books. The fun snowballed from there. It was rather nerve wrecking to write fan-based fiction, but I'm pleased to say they were very happy with the results.
