Oh, Marcia! You made my morning! And to answer your question, YES. I am just about halfway through the first draft of the new book in the Republic of Texas series, entitled, "A Reckoning of Fire." The second book takes place in a second Texas town, but weaves in familiar characters from "Mercy Springs." If you haven't already, you can Like my Facebook page and get updates and sneak peeks. To me, Christian fiction means a fictitious story from a Christian, faith-based worldview. It should also be clean, without explicit content that might be a stumbling block for someone in their walk with God. When I write, I try to show through my characters the problems and struggles we all have. My writing tends to have overall themes that are present in every day life, and I try to illustrate with words the struggles that normal people have. My characters are not perfect. But I hope to show in every book I write the hope, joy and redemption that come from believing.

I had it for years. As in, more than a decade. And I honestly think it came down to fear. For little writer's bumps in the road, I write to get around a block. I try to come up with silly rhymes to entertain the kids. I choose a word I love (because I have a not-so-secret love affair with words) and build a sentence around it. I ask myself, "And then?" if my character was written into a corner. I take a shower. For some reason, most of my ideas happen in the shower.

To me, the best thing is being able to create a world, characters, and the stories within, and help them come alive. I also get to use a God-given talent for His glory, and unashamedly do so.

Don't wait for the time to write to magically appear. And don't expect it to be easy. The idea for a book is the easy part. Weaving it all together is harder. Sticking it out til the end of re-write is grueling. Make yourself write. Make it happen. I have five children running around, we homeschool, and I have all the other demands on my time that comes with having a family. Even if it's five minutes out of the day, write something.

I'm getting into the meat of Book Two of the Republic of Texas series I'm writing. A character from the first book will be woven into the second story, so I can't wait!

I fell in love with the written word in the fourth grade after a trip to the library with my class. I checked out "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and became entranced with the way words could make pictures in my mind.

I love reading speculative and dystopic genre books. With the way our country is in turmoil, I thought it would be interesting to speculate about its future. And I've always wanted to learn more about the work of an apothecary, so this was an excellent reason to do research.
