I used a mystery from my own life in my debut novel Calvin's Head. In 1995 I was homeless in Amsterdam, living in a jeep with my dog. In Vondelpark one sunny summer morning, we came upon an active crime scene. Someone's dog had pulled a garbage bag from a pond. In it was a decapitated human head! In real life, the crime was never solved - but it was the perfect way to begin a psychological thriller called Calvin's Head. #MysteryWeek
