In Vondelpark one sunny summer morning, we came upon an active crime scene. Someone's dog had pulled a garbage bag from a pond. In it was a decapitated human head! In real life, the crime was never solved - but it was the perfect way to begin a psychological thriller called Calvin's Head. #MysteryWeek (less)

No Room at the Inn by David Swatling

As a disquieting year draws to a close, I was asked to write a few words on change and looking forward, and thereby conjured an astronomical anomaly, a childhood memory, and a roll-top talisman… as you do.

Geist Fleisch by Christian Baines
"This is my first taste of this author's Arcadia Trust tales. I'm a huge fan of a couple of his more personal works, so this was a very different journey for me.

At first, we're taken to pre-WWII Berlin with all the eccentricity of Bob Fosse’s classic " Read more of this review »
Geist Fleisch by Christian Baines
"After reading his Arcadia Trust series earlier this year, Baines has become one of my favorite new authors (new to me, at least), so when I saw this new novella I was intrigued by the premise. It definitely didn't disappoint, as I thought it was quit" Read more of this review »

Family secrets aplenty in this psychological thriller. I know the Amsterdam setting well, being my hometown, and Austin captures its darker side. The dual timelines and multiple points of view keep the pages turning as events unfold. A strong debut.
Shadow Puppet by Jeffrey Round
"Author Jeffrey Round has written another great mystery featuring gay private investigator Dan Sharp. I found the latest in the series to be deftly-plotted, well-paced and very engaging, hitting close to home for both Sharp and his friends in the gay " Read more of this review »
