I rarely get writer's block. I only write when I have something to say, when something is bursting out of my heart or mind. I just need a pen and paper and the words pour forth.

It was a combination of things that inspired me. Growing up in Nigeria, everyone wanted to come to America. America was supposed to be the land of milk and honey, the place paved with gold, the place where problems didn't exist. When I came to America, some of those expectations were met but there were others that weren't. I also noticed disillusionment in other Nigerians as they struggled to adapt to a new society. I thought this should be shared.
