I get away from writing and watch television, play with my dog, or bake something. Usually I get writer's block because I am stressed, and these things relieve the stress.

Don't get in a hurry and don't get discouraged. Writer's Digest has excellent books about writing. "Writer's Digest" and "The Writer" are excellent magazines for learning about writing. Read other author's blogs, read publishing agencies' blogs, write. Read books about writing, read books, write. Just keep at it. I am not successful yet, but I plan to be.

I am working on two memoirs and the murder mystery romance. I have another story started, but I want to have more published before I tackle that one.

I will hear a snippet of conversation, see a headline in a story, and think what if . . .? My short story published in Blood Lotus Magazine: "Clowns with Mustaches" was inspired by a talk I had with some parents while chaperoning a lock-in. We were talking about a swing set, and one of the parents said, "What was buried under the swing set?" Wow! I had a story.

My daughter challenged me to read "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." I love figuring out answers based on clues. My next book is going to be a murder mystery romance.
